The Montauk Residence is a conceptual 4,000 square foot single-family custom residence in Montauk, New York. The design is unique, innovative, and is heavily impacted by the site's proximity to wetlands and to the Atlantic Ocean. The project is designed to minimize its impact on the sensitive environment, while also providing the residents with stunning views of the surrounding water and landscape. Perhaps the biggest design challenge for the Montauk Residence was posed by the site’s incredibly narrow property boundaries. The narrow site resulted in several complex zoning and planning requirements creatively resolved by elevating the building on a pile foundation to meet flood plane restrictions and by beveling the roof edges to meet height restrictions.
