Shelter Island Residence
Shelter Island Residence
New Construction | Single Family Custom Residential
Shelter Island, Ny
Under Principal Architect Robert Young
The Shelter Island Residence is a 12,000 square foot single-family custom residence designed to be a contemporary refuge that reflects the owner’s refined taste in art and aesthetic details. The project consists of four buildings: a main house, a great room, a pool/guest house, and a remote garage with office suite. The main house, great room, and pool/guest houses are connected by an elevated ipe decking system providing seamless circulation between zones. All of the buildings share a common aesthetic, with clean lines, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a minimalist material palette. Horizontal and vertical “shou sugi ban” (Japanese charred wood) siding provides as the primary cladding and rain screen for the exterior of the residence.
